About Evan Ganick - LCSW, MSW, MA
Evan Ganick is a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy to adults navigating complex psychological and existential dilemmas. His work is grounded in diagnostic rigor, depth-oriented psychotherapy, and disciplined clinical formulation.
Evan founded Rule Out Therapy in response to a gap he observed in the field: many individuals with layered internal conflicts are offered surface-level solutions without a careful understanding of the psychological structures beneath their symptoms. His approach emphasizes ruling out medical, psychiatric, developmental, relational, and existential contributors before arriving at conclusions. Therapy is not rushed toward labels. It is clarified through careful thinking.
Evan works with adults experiencing anxiety, identity strain, sexual and relational conflict, moral tension, trauma histories, and questions of meaning. Prior to establishing his private practice, he worked extensively with combat veterans and LGBTQ+ individuals in high-acuity settings, including suicidality interventions informed by existential and psychodynamic frameworks. These experiences shaped his capacity to sit with psychological intensity without collapsing into simplification.
His clinical orientation integrates psychoanalytic theory, Jungian psychology, and existential philosophy alongside contemporary diagnostic standards. Evan’s work examines unconscious patterns, defensive structures, shame, aggression, longing, and the anxieties of freedom and responsibility. Therapy is both structured and exploratory — grounded in evidence while attentive to symbolic and relational dynamics.
Earlier in his life, Evan spent time living and studying abroad, engaging contemplative and existential traditions that continue to inform his understanding of meaning, consciousness, and psychological suffering. These experiences contribute to his depth perspective while his clinical practice remains firmly anchored in ethical and diagnostic responsibility.
Evan received his Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California and his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He remains actively engaged in advanced clinical trainings, consultation groups, and ongoing study. Psychotherapy is not simply his profession but his intellectual and professional commitment. Clients often remark on the level of presence, curiosity, and seriousness he brings to the work.
In addition to individual psychotherapy, Evan provides clinical consultation to fellow therapists seeking greater clarity in diagnostic reasoning and psychodynamic formulation.
Outside of his clinical practice, Evan maintains a rural farm, a discipline that reflects his respect for structure, patience, and long-term stewardship.
